How much should it cost for small wedding.?

There is only about 35people at the most showing. I dont want a lot of money put into this but how much should i be expecting to pay for: decent venue for reception, nice – but not too nice – catering service, preacher, party favors, pretty much all the little details. I dont want a fancy one but i dont want a redneck wedding either. ive already got the bridemaids dresses and mine with all the little accessories for those picked out, plus invintations and it doesnt even equal up to 2thousand. Are the big bucks coming now that im looking into catering and venues??? for catering i want it to be buffet with servers and american, italian and mexican food layout. Thanks!

It can be done, but you might have to cut a lot of corners. Location is also an issue — a small town is a lot different than New York City, for instance.

The big expenses are things like catering and venues, yes.

My suggestions:

*Rather than a large wedding cake, get a small, decorative cake, and basic sheet cakes for guests
*If someone in your family is good with baking, you could see if they’d be willing to make the sheet cakes
*For venue, if you belong to a church, you may be able to have both your wedding and reception in the church facilities at a low cost, or occasionally even free
*If you’re able to have a summer wedding (or you live somewhere warm enough) you might think about an outdoor wedding in a park

I see that you say you want a “buffet with servers” — what do you mean by that? Servers standing next to the buffet, or…? Buffets don’t generally have servers.

However, anything with servers and a lot of food can cost big bucks, especially when you want such a variety of food.

A few other things to look into:

*If you want a photographer, I don’t know that you’ll be able to fit that into your budget. See about going to a local college or art school, and asking a photography instructor to recommend his top students. Ask them to show you their past work, and if you like what you see, negotiate a low price. They may be students, but they can often do a good job for the money.
*Depending on what you need in terms of flowers, a relative may be willing to give up a bit of their garden for a couple of bouquets – this also depends on the season of your wedding
*Hire a DJ rather than a band, because although you can get bands for cheap, GOOD bands cost a lot more
*Go easy on the favors — while you might see a lot of “cute” things, quite frankly, many people never even take them home. Edible favors are often a good idea.
