should i buy this air intake?

The guy above me is dead wrong and I’ll explain why in a moment.

First off, try to support the US economy before purchasing that cheap literally made in China nonsense. At least when you pop your hood you’d like to see a nice AEM cold air intake or a Injen cold air intake. If you don’t have enough money, then purchase either companies short ram intakes.

The Pros of supporting American made products by AEM and Injen Technologies.
1: Actual production time went into manufacturing and engineering your piece.

2: There is detail on all items and are specifically made to be 50-state legal and provide adequate horsepower and MPG gains.

3: Did I mention they’re 50-state legal which costs more money to acquire, but the bottom side is you will pay for it. Their intakes are a bit more pricey than the Chinese garbage but trust me when I say this. The filter is the most important part, that Ebay intake is garbage and so is the paper filter that’s included. God knows how cheap that thing is, someones actually turning a big profit on that already inexpensive item, scary to think about how much the real cost of the complete ebay intake system is, $9?

4: Buying a name brand will put a smile on your face everytime you crack open the hood and you won’t get rediculed at by people who know what you actually purchased, someone like me.

Your link is also to a short ram intake, which means the air supplied is from your engine bay. Do you really want to pickup “hot” air from inside your engine bay, it’s less dense meaning less spark in the engine, creating less horsepower. Cold air intakes are king and will make that 1.6 SOHC VTEC scream once your variable valve timing and electronic lift control (VTEC) engages. Sucking up cold air outside has major advantages, it’s the most dense air found and it sounds mean from the outside.

I hope you make the right choice and actually have some money to spend or at least the smarts to save up for something that’s actually worth it and has some resale value in the future should come to sell your car and perhaps upgrade. Motor swap? K20? Hahahaha……

P.S. The guy above claims 2-hp max? Any intake whether Ebay special or name brand will definitely give you more than 2 wheel horse power. You’ll find gains somewhere around 5+ and they are noticeable throughout different rpm ranges. Short rams tend to have more response and good low end, but lack in the mid and high range area. Cold air intakes, dominate mid and absolutely obliterate short rams in the high end. You have a 1.6L SOHC VTEC, your horsepower is made in the top end my friend. With a cold air you can expect close to around 12+WHP, check on www.injen.com they have proven dyno gains. Another advantage of purchasing name brand.
