Ipod Touch 32Gb Considering!

First off, whose genius idea was it to have all those damn categories? Fun AND Enjoyable? Because clearly, some people in the world don’t “enjoy” “fun” but would rather prefer dull? Really?

Any who, the iPod Touch (herein referred to as either the iTouch or iPod for the sake of maintaining my sanity) is a great looking device. Hardware was supposedly upgraded from the iTouch 2G, probably making it faster than the iPhone 3GS (don’t quote me on that), but for all intents and purposes, it’s the same machine with a $100 price cut. Delivery came on promised date, which is slow by Amazon’s standards, but it’s pretty much a given in the holiday season.

iPod touch 32GB is plenty enough for 4500 songs + apps + photos + 5 videos or so (the 8GB version is good for 1000 songs + a couple apps + photos + a couple videos). So if music/general media is what you’re using it for, there’s no reason for you to get the 64 GB version. I myself have well 80 GB of music, and I can tell you, I do NOT need it all, ever. Those that tell you otherwise are either lying to themselves, or are compensating because more music means bigger ???? means more girls. And if you’re using it as an external hard drive, might I recommend an… external hard drive?

As far as accessories go, the headphones that came with the iPod touch 32GB and another model were actually defective for me. The mic worked, the remote worked, but it lacked sound, which is a rather important aspect of headphones to be honest. Any who, that was easily remedied by purchasing a new pair and returning that pair. The dock was as useless as ever, and the “new” sync cable is “lockless”, which is both good and bad. Most of you will be getting either/both a screen protector and a case for your iPod touch 32GB . Screen protectors are a pain to put on the first few times, and the hole will pretty much never line-up with the home button. From what I’ve heard though, the screen is pretty scratch resistant in and of itself, but I wouldn’t risk it. Also, the good cases will also set you back $20+ (10% of the iPod price).

There’s a new voice control function, which for the most part isn’t very practical, and will probably only be used for the first week after receiving the iPod touch 32GB. Most of the mic benefits will probably come from Skype-ing. The other functions of the remote are way cool though, volume control, play/pause, next/previous, and it’s really useful. Accessibility, as far as music goes, is pretty decent. Pressing the home button twice from any screen will bring up a mini-window with music controls. However, those switching from the nano/Classic will need a couple more button presses to change music on the fly when the iTouch is locked. No big though, unless you’re one of those people that don’t use turn signals when changing lanes (it’s like two inches away dude, two inches), then you should stray away from this product. 3-key presses could spell a heart attack or stroke for you.

Packaging is eye-catching as with all Apple products. Beware though, I’ve heard some of the headphones aren’t as reliable as others, and they run $30 a pair. Sure you can get the foPod headphones for $5 or whatever, but they lack the remote/mic (as of writing anyway). Apps are plentiful and plague-like growing, analogous with the number of Facebook users. Some of them are rather ridiculous though, there’s a flashlight one, which is basically what happens when someone uses the bucket tool in Paint and loads the resulting jpg. Just Google “white paper”, set brightness to max, and voila! Flashlight! That’ll be $4.99.

iPod touch 32GB is a great product for semi-lazy college guys like me, who prefer to surf the web from the comfort of one’s own bed, instead of walk 6 feet to the computer. Also for college stupids (I meant students, but stupids was an acceptable typo so I left it) who have campus-wide Wi-Fi and prefer not to be productive in class. Clearly more Facebook friends = higher salary!

As of writing, Flash is not yet iTouch approved.
