Using Hands-Free Mobile Phone Accessories
The increasing use of cell phones while driving has become a serious safety concern. A recently released study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that “80% of traffic accidents are caused by driver distraction and young drivers were four times more likely to be involved in a crash.” The study also showed that “about 65 percent of near-crashes resulted from driver inattentiveness in the 3 seconds before the incident.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that “in 2005, 10 percent of drivers using cell phones were drivers 16 to 24 years old.” More laws are now being enacted to end cell phone use when driving. There are different types of car kits that can include: LCD display that displays caller I.D. and cell phone directory, a GPS antenna that transmits the driver’s location to the display on a PDA or laptop, and the kit can have voice command capability.
