Camera Accessories Dslr

camera accessories dslr
What accessories is a must have when you purchase a DSLR camera?

It depends on what you want to do. But, be careful because there are tons of accessories that you probably don’t really need. Also, make sure to buy quality stuff because you will end up wasting your money otherwise.

The only must-have thing (besides a lens) is a memory card – and having two will protect you when one of them gets corrupted in a shoot.

You’ll also want to get a rocket blower to clean dust off the camera and lens, and some lens cleaning tissue and fluid (or a lens pen). Don’t clean your lens very often, because that’s often when people damage them. The coatings are pretty durable nowadays though, so don’t worry too much. If you get dust on your sensor and the blower can’t get it off, you may want to get a sensor cleaning kit too.

For a few more dollars, I’d get a small telephoto zoom to complement the kit lens (like a 55-200mm), lens hoods for those lenses, and a small camera bag that can hold all of your stuff.

I think it’s stupid to get a bag that can only hold your camera. If that’s the case, get a neoprene cover instead. If you do get a bag, get one that will expand to meet your future purchases. Also, get one with as little padding as possible. You don’t need it to protect your camera and it only makes the bag much bigger than it ought to be.

If you want to get serious, get this stuff:

- A Domke (or similar) shoulder bag or a camera backpack (I don’t like backpacks because they are absolutely impossible to work out of in the field. I need instant access to my lenses and a backpack makes a mockery of that. My personal favorite is the Domke F-3X, it is very small and light but holds a ton.)
- More lenses (This is a topic all its own)
- Lens hoods (Much better than a UV filter – reduces flare and protects the lens better from everything except salt water spray)
- A multicoated circular polarizing filter (Get the largest size you’ll need and buy step-down rings)
- A tripod and strap for it (Spend at least $150-200, and get a nice one like a Bogen)
- A battery grip (If your camera can use one, for sports)
- A monopod (For large sports lenses like an 80-200mm f/2.8)
- An external flash (Get this before any other lenses, about the same time as you get a tripod.)

Other stuff you probably don’t really need:

- Extra batteries (Depends on how many photos you take and how much you chimp before you recharge. Modern cameras and batteries can take many photos (1000+) before you need to recharge.)
- Camera harness (I have one, and it keeps the camera from swinging around too much when I’m hiking. Otherwise it looks really touristy to have on all the time.)
- UV filters (I don’t use them because they cause flare and reduce image quality. If you use a hood instead you will provide better protection and get better quality from your lenses.)
