i cannot use anything that is controlled by windows explorer? im running vista premium on a sony vaio laptop.?
i can open control panel but everything inside like security and programs say windows explorer has stopped working followed by windows explorer is restarting. i have been told to use cccleaner and all other registry cleaners. i have also tried terminating explorer.exe in task manager(processes) and re-enableing it in accessories several times.nothing seems to be working and its a real pain. can anyone help please?
There is a cpl file that says windows host process (rundll32) has stopped working. it is called wscui.cpl and the type of file is control panel item. does this help?
It sounds like one of the *cpl files is crashing, they can be found in the system32 folder on your C: (it might be easier to do a file search on *cpl), double click them to see if they are functioning correctly, the affected one should throw up some sort of error, rename it and see if that makes a difference, or find out what program it belongs to and disable or remove that program.
When the error comes up there should be a ‘view problem details’ it should give you the name of the file (module) causing the crash. What does it say?
IN REPLY: its a security centre file, and we dont wanna be deleting that lol. So do you have your windows cd? If so do the following.
While you are already in windows put in the cd, exit the windows setup screen that comes up. Now go to start > run > type in: cmd
at the prompt type the following
expand -r E:i386wscui.cp_ C:WindowsSystem32
(note: E: is your cd-rom drive, if your cd-rom has a different drive letter then use that letter instead. It needs to be exactly as written here there is space before
and after -r and a space before C: )
PS: sorry forgot it was vista: instead of start > run go to all programs > accessories > right click on command prompt and choose run as administrator
